GHIORSI & SORRENTI, INC. PARTNERS WITH HOSPICE OF LANCASTER COUNTY
AT NHPCO CONFERENCE PRESENTATION
Ghiorsi & Sorrenti Inc. (GSI) partnered with capital campaign client Hospice of Lancaster County to present Innovation and Revelation - The “How” of Hospice of Lancaster County’s Capital Campaign Planning Process at the recently held National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s (NHPCO) 23rd Annual Management and Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. Committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care, the NHPCO is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States.
The featured presenters were Senior Vice President, Mary Ann Winters, MPS and Senior Account Executive, Anna Connors, MA from GSI and CEO Steve Knaub and Vice President of Development and Community Relations, Bonnie Jess Lopane, CFRE from Hospice of Lancaster County. Their presentation focused on a “real world” example of a quality capital campaign planning strategy, process and outcome. The session outlined the factors critical to assessing a Hospice’s readiness for a capital campaign, compared traditional and “new generation” campaign planning approaches and provided opportunity for dialogue with the organization and the leadership of Ghiorsi & Sorrenti, the consulting firm who is partnering in conducting the Hospice of Lancaster County capital campaign planning process and campaign.
“We were in an ideal position to take part in this presentation because we had just taken part in the process, working with GSI,” said Ms. Lopane. “The development professionals and others who attended had the same questions and concerns we had when Hospice of Lancaster County was considering how to raise major capital dollars. It was wonderful to serve as a resource from the point of view of experience.”
Hospice of Lancaster County, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is a leading resource in end-of-life medical, clinical, ethical and spiritual issues at the local, state and national levels, and is active in a leadership capacity with the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals. They are constructing a new $17 million 24-bed inpatient unit that will parallel the award winning design of their Essa Flory Hospice Center, and an expanded PATHWays Center for Grief & Loss. This new facility will triple the number of inpatient beds available. With a goal of $5 million, Extraordinary, the Building Campaign for Hospice of Lancaster County is the third and largest capital campaign in the organization's history.
“As one of the most rapidly growing segments in healthcare today, Hospice and Palliative Care organizations are faced with the increased demand to secure major dollars for program and facilities from philanthropic sources,” said Ms. Winters. “With the most compelling of cases, these organizations are well primed to take the step from ‘memorials’ to major gifts' through well planned and implemented capital campaigns.”
