Peter W. Ghiorsi has 40 years of experience in the fields of fund raising, public relations, marketing and planning. For the past 21 years he has served as Chief Executive Officer of Ghiorsi & Sorrenti, Inc., having been a founding partner of GSI in 1989. GSI has partnered with thousands of clients in raising over $6 billion with an additional $6 million in progress.
For 15 years he served St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York as Vice President for Development and External Affairs. Prior to St. Vincent's, Mr. Ghiorsi was Director of Development at Providence College, and then a Vice President with a national fund raising and public relations firm.
While at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Mr. Ghiorsi's accomplishments included: Raising over $125 million for new building and facilities renovations, endowment, clinical educational and research programs, and operations; building a fund raising program from one raising $2 million annually to $20 million annually; increasing the Medical Center's endowment fifteen-fold from $2 million to $30 million; conducting two major capital campaigns totaling $50 million, and initiating a third with a goal of $100 million.
Also while at St. Vincent's, Mr. Ghiorsi initiated lucrative annual giving programs, a comprehensive grants management program, the Medical Center's first planned giving program, and he inaugurated the “St Vincent’s Angelus Award” annual gala event. He also developed a special emphasis on major gift prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation leading to numerous six-figure gifts and grants from individuals, foundations and corporations. Mr. Ghiorsi was also instrumental in organizing and structuring the St. Vincent's Foundation, Inc., and in the process of identifying and recruiting trustees for both the Foundation and the Medical Center. In addition to his fund raising accomplishments at St. Vincent’s, Mr. Ghiorsi organized the Medical Center’s first Division of Development and External Affairs, integrating the functions of resource development and fund raising, marketing and public relations.
Mr. Ghiorsi holds a BA in Mathematics from Providence College and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in marketing in the Graduate School of Management of the New School for Social Research in New York City. He writes and lectures frequently on the subjects of fund raising, marketing and public relations.
Mr. Ghiorsi is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in New York City. In 1988, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) which is the leading professional association for healthcare resource development executives in the U.S., Canada and Australia. In 1989, he served as Chairman of the Board of the AHP Foundation. He has also achieved the status of Fellow in the AHP accreditation program.
Mr. Ghiorsi, his wife Linda and their children, Alison, Sarah, Matthew, Catherine, Peter and James reside in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
